Tile work seen here was done in 2008 at the Kaanapali Golf Estate on the island of Maui. This job was run by JDL Construction Company which specializes in high end custom homes. To do the entire home took us 3 months.

We did the tile work for the inside of the house, showers and pool deck. This tile seen outside here is 24 inch travertine.

The challenge to any pool deck is to make sure water goes toward the drain and make very sure there's no possibility of puddles forming that cmay cause a person to slip and injure themselves. To ensure this, we pay close attention to each tile to make sure it has proper pitch, 1/8 of an inch per foot to 1/4 inch per foot depending on the type of tile. Stone of random size, different gauge quartzite will have 1/4 inch per foot pitch due to unevenness in the stone surface. Because of its texture it grips the feet better than travertine, which has more slippery surface and water will flow as long as you have minimal pitch of 1/8 inch per foot.
